I trust in any community solution to a society problem, I believe the next 10 years we will have to prove that to ourselves and each other. Together Culture I see as a crucial cog in that eco system and one I am proud to be part of as an entrepreneurial change agent.

Coming from a scientific background I’ve always found art and creativity to be like magic and for a long time I’ve struggled with expressing my inner creativity.

However, by talking with other people and exploring their ideas and their ways of thinking I’ve discovered that creativity can take many different forms.

For me the biggest inspiration is to see people that are passionate about their ideas and it is a deeply rewarding experience to be able to help and support them.

I hope that by being a founding member of Together Culture I can help provide an environment for nurturing new ideas and help others see their work the same way that I see it – as amazing creative magic 🙂

I believe that community is transformative on an individual and a societal level, and creating opportunities for communities to emerge and thrive therefore benefits everyone.

Cambridge in particular can feel quite transient and divided, so I’m excited by the ambition of Together Culture to change things around here!

I’ve spent most of my working life in software development and in pubs, and I’ve tried more creative hobbies than I can count. I hope to bring this diverse experience to Together Culture, along with some all-round enthusiasm.

I am so proud to be a founding member of Together Culture! I’m all about creating a community that’s inclusive, diverse, and empowering for everyone involved.

What drew me to Together Culture was the idea of intentionally building community, creating culture as an intentional practice. As a founding member, I’m excited to contribute my skills and ideas to the community. Whether it’s offering a practical voice or helping to organise events, I’m ready to do my part. I believe we can create a space that is supportive, inspiring, and fun.

My hope for Together Culture is that we can shake things up and make our city a better place to live for everyone. Together, we can create something amazing and make a positive impact in people’s lives. So let’s get out there and make some culture, people!

I want a planet that is culturally, environmentally and socially in a better place than it is right now. Moaning about it and throwing things at the telly don’t seem to be having an effect. Nor does dooming people into submission. I hope/believe that art, in its very widest sense, is the key to the changes that can rebalance our relationship with the earth and one another. Shit I sound like a total hippy.

I lead Cambridgeshire Climate Emergency, a group supporting grassroots community climate activists in the county with a network, resources and data.

I hope to be inspired, challenged and entertained by my involvement with Together Culture.

I’m a techie and if there’s a theme to my work it’s generally about using the internet to connect people to achieve something more than they could alone. So maybe that’s how I can help.

Cambridge is full of creative people, diverse insights and opportunities to create. But in the flux of such a dynamic and ever-changing city, finding places within which connections can be made and culture can be created together can be so difficult. I’ve joined Together Culture as a Founding Member to help support a new vehicle for creativity, collaboration and connectivity in our city, and I can’t wait to join with others in bringing this exciting new project to life!

Realising I wanted to share this experience with others I started Earth & Mind CIC. I’ve worked at conservation charities, in the circular economy, as a gardener, a marketer, and now as a facilitator of nature-based activities for mental health.

I really enjoy learning about different things and meeting new people. Each time I try I new skill or activity or interact with someone new I am led on a journey of discovery. I keep an open mind and am curious about the world around me.

In my free time I really enjoy connecting with people over a warm drink like coffee, playing sports, being mentored, learning about engineering architecture and languages. I have been coming to Together Culture to reconnect with my creative side and discover my creative identity.

The concept of Together Culture is inspiring. I encounter lots of other people’s creativity through my work and I passionately support that. I’m also aware of Cambridge’s issues and the efforts of many in identifying and implementing solutions. I value staying connected to my own creativity and the continued development of my connection with the city. To be able to contribute to devising something meaningful and relevant feels powerful. Together Culture feels like it’s as much about process as the end product, that the journey our community undertakes could unearth valuable gems. That’s appealing to me.

I originally trained as a Graphic Designer, but the work turned out to be more production and less creativity than I had anticipated and eventually I grew disenchanted with it and dove into an Art Therapy master degree to redirect my life. Shortly after, life took a turn and I ended up in a 3rd world country teaching English which led me to my other passion, languages and I became a certified translator.

Just recently, I have wanted to bring back more creativity into my life and started learning new hobbies (watercolor and photography, very beginner’s stage) and while looking for an art studio space, I found out about Together Culture. I’m excited to connect with a creative community and contribute my skills to a larger purpose.

Looking forward to participating in collaborative creative projects!

Susannah Redhead

Clinical Psychologist

I’ve joined Together Culture to be part of a creative flourishing in Cambridge.

I’ve lived in Cambridge (on and off) my whole life and am aware there is a creative scene and support for social entrepreneurship already. I want to help join that all up and build on it.

Finding a way of reducing the inequality in Cambridge and inaccessibility of a lot of what goes on here is really important to me as is participation of all different strokes of Cambridge residents, including those who’ve lived here forever!

I’m a clinical psychologist and passionately believe in the importance of inclusiveness and community towards good mental health. So I can bring this enthusiasm and skillset and general clinical psychologist-y musings!

As founder of Gallery 9 and the Artists in Residence at 9 Norfolk Street, I know first hand that there is a slumbering art scene in Cambridge. A contemporary scene that isn’t necessarily all still life and landscapes. It just needs the opportunity to foster and grow. Someone to champion it.

I met cofounder Ellie Breeze during our master’s course at Cambridge School of Art and subsequently shared a 20 sq metre studio with her for years at Studio 9. I’ve joined Together Culture because I’ve witnessed the alt-Cambridge art scene, and have faith that Ellie and the team can champion those artists who are looking for a community, and sometimes just to be recognized.

Holly Shirra

Musician, Educator and Music Therapist

I’m Holly. I’m a long-time musician, an experienced educator, a passionate music therapist and have kept up a daily meditation practice for half my life.

What motivates me is helping people connect to one another in community, and giving people both the tools and the agency to express themselves.

I’m on a mission to run creative workshops centred around song-writing, music improvisation and other musical activities. I want to find out: what is the music inside us as individuals, and what happens when collectives get together and spread a shared message through our music?

I joined Together Culture to understand how goals are achieved in community, and to find other like-minded creatives to both give support to, and receive support from. I’m ready to turn my ‘me’ goals into ‘our’ goals, and I come into this venture with an open mind.

Oh, and I’m also super into skill-sharing. Services I can offer are piano lessons, therapeutic song-writing sessions, reiki and home-cooking – my food has been called fancy-restaurant-worthy! I’d love to find business-savvy people to help me with business marketing, social media and promotion.

I am a writer, designer, creative thinker, wild swimmer, painter, artist, author, twin mama, and barbell lifter.

My superpower is sharing lived experience as a legacy of language, and helping others to realise their purpose.

I was drawn to this amazing community as creative practice in all its forms is so important to me.

I am excited to explore my creativity through a new lens, to meet local people in the community, and to create projects that spark conversations and connection.
